Theragun is the brand range of massage guns produced by Therabody. The Theragun Elite and Pro are their two most expensive in the range. So, we thought we would put it to the test, Theragun Elite vs Theragun Pro to see how they stack up against each other. Particularly as both products at first glance can look very similar.
So, if you’re planning on buying one or the other, this review will help you make a better informed decision.
What Does the Theragun Elite and Theragun Pro Offer?
Theragun are priced considerably higher than most other message guns on the market. The quality of the Elite and Pro is superior to their cheaper counterparts as you would expect. The ergonomic triangular design does make it easier to use than other massage devices but not considerably enough to justify paying the high price. You are essentially paying for the quality of the motor when it comes to the Theragun.
They provide a high quality percussion motor thats more reliable than its cheaper competitors. Some of the cheaper alternatives have been reported to not last for long. Particularly, maintaining its top speeds. The Theragun motor is also smooth and provides an invigorating and deep muscle tissue massage experience. The motor is also quieter than its alternatives. It’s more akin to a pleasant hum than sounding like a loud motorised device.
It also has bluetooth connectivity which enables connection to the Therabody app to create personalised routines. Most cheaper alternatives do not have bluetooth installed.
So, let’s get down to the subtle differences between the Elite and the Pro
Theragun Elite vs Pro: Price
The Pro is the higher priced model. The Pro is priced at £549 compared to the Elite at £375 (Prices are taken from the Therabody website – price may vary from other sources).
Theragun Elite vs Pro: Pressure and Speed
Both models offer adjustable and variable speed settings ranging from 1750 and 2400 percussions per minute (PPM).
Whilst the speed settings are the same the Theragun Pro generates more pressure. The Pro has a 60 pound stall-force compared to the elite which generates 40 pound of stall-force.
Whilst this means that the Pro is more effective for deep tissue massage, the Elite will still provide an effective amount of pressure for most common massage requirements.
Theragun Elite vs Pro: Battery Life
Despite all the features that comes with a Theragun Pro and Elite, they both offer excellent battery life. They are equipped with a lithium-ion battery and provides 150 minutes of battery life. The length is plenty enough for most common uses.
The battery is removable and the Pro comes with an extra battery which will double the lifespan. The only time that the extra battery would be advantageous is in professional settings. A professional therapist who is seeing patients and regularly using the Theragun throughout the day may require the extra battery life.
Theragun Elite vs Pro: Accessories
Both the Pro and Elite come with a good quality carry case, USB-C cable and adaptor, battery and attachment pouch.
However, the Pro has 6 attachment massage heads where as the Elite has 5. The one extra massage head that comes with the Pro is the supersoft head. This is a useful head attachment if you are massaging around bony or sensitive areas.
Theragun Elite vs Pro: The Verdict
Both are excellent guns so for most recreational or competitive athletes the Theragun Elite will provide you with everything you need for recovery and muscle stimulation. As the name suggests, the justification for pay the extra money for the Theragun Pro is if you plan on using it in a Professional setting. That means you are a professional therapist or a professional athlete whereby the subtle extra’s of greater force, spare battery and supersoft massage head will be necessary at some stage in your day to day work.
That said, the Elite covers most bases and common massage uses and for the vast majority of us it is the recommended better alternative for the price.
